1960s French Provincial bedroom set – not just whistling Dixie!

Dixie-Style French Provincial bedroom set from the 1960s, in great shape

Dixie style French Provincial bedroom set
Even though our shop is (as always?) a tad overfull, I could not wait to have Barb and Mike bring in these French Provincial bedroom pieces from the 1960s. The style is so appealing, and it’s hard to find four matching pieces at one go. So here’s your chance to enjoy 2 dressers and 2 nightstands in this classic ivory and gold style.

This set has no maker’s name on it, and there are subtle differences in the gold trim and the drawer handles, but this set definitely captures the look, and I believe the solid quality, produced by Dixie Furniture in the 1960s. The cabinet frames are wood. The tops are white formica with a subtle wood-grain image. The cabriole front legs are one piece with the cabinet corners, not screwed on. There are dust panels between each level of all-wood, dovetailed drawers.
Measurements (rounded):
5-drawer highboy dresser: 36x18x45″ tall
6-drawer long dresser: 55x18x32″ tall
pair of 1-drawer nightstands: each one is 22x14x26″ tall.

Palms trees, pachyderms, and palanquins: a throne chair creates a palace

Bassett has faithfully recreated the antique French throne chair
and added playful upholstery

French throne chair by BassettThrone chairs have the happy effect of creating a special space wherever they are placed.

Our friend, MaryBeth, created her “breakfast nook” with a comfortable throne chair like this one, set by a window where she can sit with her bowl of granola and watch the morning grow.

Others find they are perfect for reading by the fireplace. Or they can become a “thinking chair” for times of creative thought in the studio or office.

Where will you create your favorite spot with a comfortable throne chair?

When Bassett Furniture Company set out to produce a made-in-America reproduction of a French antique, they must have had fun examining and measuring and considering just what it is we love about these old throne chairs.
Their result is a very faithful copy. The generous proportions, angles, styling, and carvings are a near-perfect match to an 1800s antique French throne chair that recently sold on ebay for nearly $1000.

The upholstery chosen for this particular piece is a delightful patchwork of palm trees, pachyderms, and palanquins, woven into a dense, tapestry look that evokes the French colonial era in a lighthearted way.

Unless you need to have a true antique for some reason (and there are such reasons), take advantage of this affordable way to bring timeless elegance into your collection.
